Who can join?

We want any students with an interest in autonomy, shipping, software development or who just love problem solving to feel welcome to join the competition. To take part in the competition, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a university or college. If you have any questions regarding the participation or registration form, do not hesitate to ask us. It is also worth checking out the Njord forum, as your question might be answered there already.
We are glad to see you here! We are always looking for more teams to join the competition. Njord aims to be an international arena for students to be creative, innovative and real life problem solvers.

The competition will be a great possibility for you and your team to explore new ideas and concepts connected to software development and the autonomous shipping industry. The problems you will meet in the competition is created together with the world leading autonomy cluster situated in Trondheim. In other words, the problems you will meet provides you the possibility to get hands on experience on state-of-the-art methods used within sea autonomy.
It is not necessary to have any former experience within autonomy or shipping, but we recommend that at least one team member has some experience with software development or similar. To join the competition, you and your team must be in an undergraduate or graduate program. You will also need to send in a form to Njord, where you can document team members (at least two), and a contact person from your university. There is no upper limit for numbers of team members, but we estimate that you will need approximately 4 students with some knowledge of software development and/or autonomous systems to be able to solve this years challenge.
Teams only participating in the digital competition are not required to build a model of the boat. However, we invite all of the teams to Trondheim in August 2022 to meet each other and a number businesses at the forefront of marine autonomy.
