Njord NTNU is a student organization at NTNU where students work hands-on with the future of maritime autonomy. We host Njord – The Autonomous Ship Challenge in Trondheim and are developing our own Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) that will compete from 2026.
Our members are divided into several teams: the Board, Control Autonomy, Perception, Hardware, Competition Planning, Marketing, Business Relations, and Naval Architecture. Together, we combine technology, creativity, and collaboration to make real impact — from coding and design to event planning and outreach. Being part of Njord means learning by doing, in a team that pushes boundaries.
The Project Manager has overall responsibility for the project’s execution, progress, and delivery. This role ensures alignment between technical and non-technical teams, manages timelines and milestones, and represents the project externally.

The Deputy Project Manager supports the Project Manager in daily operations and has primary responsibility for financial management. The role ensures budget control, accounting and funding allocation.
The Head of Business & Marketing is responsible for external relations, branding, and communication. This role manages sponsor relations and ensures professional visibility of the project.

The Head of Competition Planning is responsible for planning and coordinating all activities related to Njord - The Autonomous Ship Challenge, ensuring the team is fully prepared logistically and operationally.

The Head of Hardware oversees the design, development, and integration of all physical systems. This role ensures mechanical, electrical, and structural components function as a coherent system.

The Head of Software is responsible for all software systems, including autonomy, perception, and simulation. The role ensures scalable, reliable, and well-integrated software solutions.

The lead naval architect is responsible for the finalisation of the hull design - from design, simulation, and component integration, to the final product. Your job is to lead the naval architecture team and provide technical guidance in the process. A deep understanding of mechanics, CAD/CAM, production technology (see TPK4190), and boat design is essential, alongside a fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics and electronics.

The Electrical Lead is responsible for the design, development, and integration of all electrical systems onboard Njord's Autonomous Surface Vehicle. This role ensures reliable electronics integration, and communication between sensors, actuators, and control systems. You will lead and provide technical guidance throughout the development process.

As Control & Autonomy Lead, you are part of the Control & Autonomy team and take a hands-on role in developing Njord’s ASV control system. You are responsible for driving the team’s progress, ensuring technical direction, and coordinating with the board to align development with the overall strategy.

As Perception Lead, you will be responsible for the development and integration of the sensor system onboard Njord’s Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV). Your work will directly impact the vessel’s ability to perceive and navigate its environment safely and effectively. You will gain hands-on experience in processing real-world sensor data and developing machine learning algorithms for obstacle detection and tracking. In this role, you will define the technical direction of the perception team and coordinate progress and priorities with the board.
